About Mike

I've been a working writer for more than fifteen years and have written film scripts, TV shows, graphic novels, early readers, chapter books, books for middle grade, young adult, and adult readers. I've written in prose and in verse. I've created apps, taught in classrooms, lectured at university and conferences, delivered workshops, run writers groups, and never stopped learning. In 2024, I received my MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, in writing for Children and Young Adults. I currently am on the board of CANSCAIP, where I serve as treasurer. I'm an active member of SCBWI, CANSCAIP, and TWUC. I live in Ottawa, with four daughters, a dog, and cat. When not reading or writing you can find me on or in every state of water: skiing, skating, swimming, kayaking or canoeing (while thinking about books).
